“Put that fire out!” Bleke ordered.

Weslo stepped back and felt as though he had done something horribly wrong, but before he turned to walk away, Weslo gazed at the arrow for a long hard minute.

“Weslo, I meant now!” Bleke barked, but Weslo did not flinch or react. He was entranced in a thought that did not budge his concentration.

As Weslo began to speak, everyone noticed he did not stutter once, “Hrowl, you said that the arrow could only be broken by a wizard more powerful than the one who made it, right?” Hrowl nodded still amazed at Weslo’s steady, fluid speech. “By my count, we’ve got four sorcerer’s here. We can do it together.” Weslo’s speech was so strong and spirited, that everyone felt energized and positive that they could actually break the wizard’s arrow, pull it through, and heal Bleke.

“Well, I’m up for not bleeding to death,” Bleke responded with raised eyebrows. “Besides, who know long it may take Ivindfor to catch up with us. Although, he’s going to be really mad that we let Edmund use his powers,” he turned to Edmund and continued. “I trust you, Edmund. I know you haven’t got a clue what to do, but that’s the beauty of it. Your spirit will guide you, as long as you command it with confidence.”

Edmund nodded hesitantly, then looked up at Weslo. His spirits were melding together as one, as was Morclyf’s. Bleke, too, was preparing himself as the spirits fused together, interweaving their colors into something new. Although anxious, Edmund was more focused than he had ever been in his life. He felt prepared and willing to perform whatever task needed to help his uncle.

“Edmund, get some fire,” Weslo ordered. “When you come back, we’ll be ready to help break and pull the arrow out. Morclyf, we’ll need to stand and hold the shaft behind Bleke.”
